Red Hot Swing

September is coming up, and we've got our fall schedule of classes lined up for you!  All of these take place at the Victoria Arts Connection studio, 2750 Quadra (Map).

• Swing 1 starts on Sunday September 19th.  You don't need a partner nor do you need any experience for our beginner dance series.  We remember what it was like to be a beginner, and we'll make it both fun and easy for you to start!  Class time is from 7:35pm to 9pm until October 31st.  There is no lesson on October 10th for Thanksgiving.

• Swing 3 begins on Wednesday September 22nd.  Although a partner isn't required, you'll need some swing experience under your belt such as Swing 2 or Balboa 1.  If in doubt, call us at (250) 885-4639 for instructor permission.  We'll be working on lindy hop fundamentals, the shim sham, and some more advanced charleston.  Class time is 8pm to 9:30pm until October 27th.

In the specialty class department, we have a couple of great offerings for you:

• It's been a while since Kyle taught one of his famous Musicality classes, so he and Christabel will hook you up.  You know you're dancing to the beat - but are you really dancing to the music?  Not sure?  This class is for you.  Whether you lead or follow, this ultra-fun three-week series will feature a blend of exercises and playtime that will open your ears and get you dancing to the music in ways you didn't know you could.  6pm to 7:25pm starting on Sunday September 19th until October 3rd.

• Fun Tricks is a new four-week series where you can learn some really neat moves.  These are not going to be aerials, but instead cool things to do on the social dance floor.  No partner required, 8:15pm to 9:45pm from Tuesday September 28th to October 19th.

Finally, students rejoice!  We've made a huge upgrade to our student discount!  It's now $20 and it also stacks with our member discount.

Here's the skinny on our July-August round of classes:

• Swing 1 begins on Wednesday July 7th.  You need neither a partner nor experience for this beginner series!  It will run from 6:30pm to 7:55pm until August 11th.

• Swing 2 starts up on Wednesday July 7th as well.  This is our recommended entry point for anybody who has prior dance experience.  It's also the next step if you've completed our Swing 1.  This series will take place from 8:05pm to 9:30pm until August 11th.

• Balboa 1 begins on Tuesday July 6th.  This is another second-level class, so you'll need to have either Swing 1 or some other dance experience under your belt.  Class time is 7:30pm to 9pm until August 10th.

• Showtime is this summer's specialty class, starting on Thursday July 8th.  This is a fourth-level class - you should have completed our Swing 3 or have some serious swing dancing experience.  If in doubt, you can request instructor permission at 250-885-4639.  Here's the deal with this class: we're going to teach you a routine (aerials and all) and then get you to perform it!  Unlike our other classes, you'll need to bring your own partner for Showtime.  It runs from 7:30pm to 9:30pm until August 12th.

A huge thank you to Andrea Boyes for being such a fun and amazing partner for the fourth Stars on Stage!

Christabel and I threw difficult dance moves and aerials at her, and she just soaked it all up.  We rocked the house last night.  (I literally couldn't hear the music for the insane cheering most of the time.)

The new session of classes starts *this week*!  Swing 3 begins tomorrow evening and our beginner series, Swing 1, starts on Wednesday night.
